10 Great Tips for Living a Fulfilled Life

Defined as a feeling of happiness and satisfaction, fulfillment is the ultimate goal of the human race. While everyone wants to feel fulfilled in their life, many of us tend to feel more regret than fulfillment. Isn’t it time to take charge of your life, leave the feelings of regret behind, and begin to feel fulfilled instead? Fulfilled people are more satisfied and happier; they appreciate what they have and are not focussed on what they don’t have.

Fulfillment may seem like the impossible dream, but it is well within everyone’s reach. Here are 10 great tips to help you achieve that feeling of fulfillment and a more contented life.

1. Relationships before Possessions

We often tend to focus on the “things” we need – from the basics like food, clothing, and shelter to the extras like a fancy car, or the latest technology. However, possessions are not a meaningful source of long-lasting happiness. Put more emphasis on building the relationships in your life, be sure to spend with your friends and family.

Put effort into meeting more people from all types of backgrounds. This broadens your mind, helping you become a well-rounded individual. Some people you will want to just meet, but take the time to discover which individuals you would like to get to know better and then take the time to make those connections.

When your life is coming to an end, you will not be thinking about all of the money you have earned but about your relationships. Adopt the mindset that personal relationships are worth than money in the long run.

2. Give Back to Others

While investing in yourself and your future is important, giving back to others provides a sense of fulfillment in your life. This does not mean writing a check, but giving your time. Spending time helping those less fortunate than yourself reminds you of just what you have to be grateful for in your own life.

Volunteering forces you to take you mind off your own life and problems and focus on someone else. Watching the reactions of those you are helping reinforces the idea that there are more important things in life than money and your problems. Doing for others provides a light for others, that they, in turn, will shine back into your world.

Living a fulfilled life requires a curious mind. Lifelong learning helps you understand what the world has to offer and what experiences exist that you would like to explore one day. Learning provides authentic and lasting satisfaction. While you may never achieve mastery in any one topic, the process of learning itself provides satisfaction, adding to the feeling of a fulfilled life.

4. Accept Where You Are and What You Have

We tend to focus on what others have that we don’t. This only leads to feelings of dissatisfaction. Learn to be grateful for what you have. If you have a difficult time accomplishing this, talk or look to those who have less than you. Realizing how much worse your life could be helps you feel more grateful for the way your life is now. A grateful attitude tends to act as a stabilizer throughout the mountains and valleys of life. To start putting this into practice, take the time each day to list at least three things you are thankful for.

5. Take Breaks

Take a short break daily to appreciate what life has to offer. It could be as simple as stepping outside for a while and appreciating the sunshine or the star-filled sky. Find the beauty in what the world and people around you have to offer.

It is also essential to take longer breaks throughout the year. Whether you travel abroad, stay in your country, or even your own home it is important to take a break. Just take the time to do something different and create new experiences. This is especially important if you taking a ‘staycation’. Make sure you don’t spend your time catching up on cleaning, yard work, or other chores that have piled up. Take the time to do something different. Do something just for the enjoyment of doing it.

6. Establish Financial Peace

Finances are one of the leading causes of stress today. You do not have to be rich to obtain financial peace; you simply need to be able to live within your means. Learn to live below your means and accept that money is a resource and not the end goal of life.

7. Find Purpose in Your Work

Most people spend 40 or more hours per week at their job, adding up to 2,000 or more hours per year. Many people hate their jobs, but spending 2,000 hours per year hating your life will not lead to any sense of fulfillment. If you are able to find a job you love, you are very fortunate, cherish what you do. The best advice obviously is to find a job you enjoy. However, let’s face it; this is not possible for everyone. Then you need to find ways to appreciate your job. Stop focussing on the negatives, instead look for the positives. At the end of each day,

look back and find the positives. They may be tiny and hard to find but with practice, it becomes easier and you will start recognizing other positives as they occur. As you focus less on the negatives you will be better able to enjoy (or at least not hate) your job.

8. Don’t Make Life Difficult – Forgive and Let Go

Everyone makes mistakes. Dwelling on your own mistakes and the mistakes of others drags you down. Learn to forgive and move on. Spend your time and energy on other things that build up, rather than tear down.

Don’t overanalyze every decision, living in fear of making a mistake. Learn to let go.

9. Never Stop Pursuing Your Dreams

Pursuing your dreams does not mean being dissatisfied with your current life (which would be contradictory to point #4). Pursuing your dreams means not becoming stagnant, but continuing to grow and strive. Pursuing dreams gives added purpose to your life. Stay true to your dreams, don’t let anyone else dictate what you can or cannot do.

10. Maintain Your Health

Follow the doctor’s orders – eat right, exercise, and get plenty of sleep. Just be sure not to let these goals become your sole aim in life. While they are important, don’t let them take away your enjoyment in life. Keeping up a healthy lifestyle promotes happiness at a biological level. Living a healthier life leads to fewer illnesses, which ultimately helps promote a feeling of fulfillment in your life.
